Frying Pan: In nice weather, the young and the single flock to this popular outdoor bar on the Hudson to pound Coronas and do some serious flirting. Reopened after a year’s absence, Frying Pan hosts a healthy pick-up scene, but for those not interested, there are plenty of tables to escape to on the historic lightship-turned-bar. With a nautical décor so authentic you might think you stepped onto the set of Jaws, impeccable views in every direction, and ping-pong and foosball tables, this spot is still a classic New York experience. Standard pub fare like burgers and BBQ ribs can be ordered from a self-service counter, and Friday and Saturday nights feature DJs. Visit during the afternoon or early in the week for a calmer vibe, and at dusk, climb to the observation deck for one of the best sunset views in all of Manhattan.
Open from April to October, noon–1am. |
